A.R. Rahman Again In Oscar Race With Three Nominations

If someone wants to describe A.R. Rahman, he has to be genius. If there is anything that Rahman likes is making music. A Hindu by birth, A.R. Rahman converted to Islam when Sheikh Abdul Quadir, a Pir called cured Rahman’s sister from a fatal disease. Rahman had to choose from seven names and he chose Allah Rakha Rahman. Like so many other legends, A. R. Rahman had struggled during his childhood. At the age of 15, Rahman was asked to leave the school because his attendance was too short. Double Oscar Awards winner, music maestro A.R. Rahman may get his next Oscar Award after getting nominated among 114 probables, while the Bollywood film Jal is also featuring in the list of Oscar hopefuls. Rahman’s work for The Hundred-Foot Journey, Million Dollar Arm and Indian film Kochadaiiyaan are listed on the website of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on its website.
The final nominations shortlist for Oscar awards will be announced January 15, 2015 and the presentation ceremony will be held at February 22, 2015.
Girish Malik’s directorial debut Jal which is based on the problem of water shortage has also shortlisted for nomination among the 100 films in the best picture category as well as in the best. As an independent submission, Jal features in the list, while officially the India will be represented at the Academy awards in the best foreign feature category by Liar’s Dice.
With Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire in 2009, Rahman had earlier made the nation proud with his two awards at Academy Awards platforms. With lyrics by Gulzar, A.R. Rahman was awarded for the popular song Jai ho from Slumdog Millionaire.
The nominations for the Awards will be announced on January 15 and the ceremony will be held in the month of February. The great Indian composer, the music maestro Rahman is once again in the race for an Academy Award. Among more than hundred nominations in the Original Score category for the prestigious Oscar Awards.
